‘Renfield’ might be the most relatable film of the year.

If you’ve ever had a bad boss then you know what it’s like to have a sudden urge to stab someone in the heart with a wooden stake. Maybe that’s a bit harsh. MAYBE. Dreading going to work because your manager is an asshole is a terrible feeling but a feeling many people can relate to.

Bad bosses know no limits and this rings especially true for the premise of Renfield. Dracula (Nicolas Cage) sucks as a boss and his trusted servant, Renfield (Nicholas Hoult) is finally tired of his shit.

Renfield is all of us.

‘65’ is a terrible name for a movie.

Holy shit, who thought naming this movie, 65 was a good idea? Is this really the best, the powers that be could come up with? How incredibly uninspiring and flat out boring. Barf. I’m not an expert on the art of naming movies but I feel like a film title should evoke some kind of emotion, not make me feel dead inside.

We gotta do better Hollywood.

I also want to be crystal clear, I’m not pooh-poohing 65, in fact I think it looks dope. It has a lot of things going for it. This was created by the same dudes who wrote the screenplay for A Quiet Place. It stars Adam Driver as a spaceman. It’s got dinosaurs. It’s got laser guns.

Hell, Spaceman Vs. Dinosaurs is a better name than 65.

Thinking about ‘Beau Is Afraid’ is hurting my brain.

What in the world is going on in this movie? I don’t have the faintest of an idea but damn, does this look cool.

Also damn, does this look confusing.

Ari Aster is one of my favorite directors in the game right now and he has consistently rocked my world. Hereditary came out of left field and impacted me more than I could have ever imagined. I still think about the 3rd act from time to time and it’s the reason why I slept with the lights on for weeks after. And what can I say about Midsommar that hasn’t been said a million times on the internet already? The final shot of Florence Pugh smiling in her flower crown is forever burned into my memory. Epic shit.

Beau is Afraid looks to be leaning in the direction of high art, symbology and big ideas. I’m worried that I may be too dumb to fully enjoy this. In fact, Im willing to bet a weeks worth of wages that the true meaning of this movie will soar high above my head, leaving me with a feeling that I’m not worthy of ever viewing another Ari Aster movie again. Regardless, I’m holding out hope that this movie will fucking rule.
